Sleeping Beauty @ Opera House Cork - review of first night
Visually superb, at times stunning (the start of act 2 is magnificent)
Great dancing, complex and demanding
Fine singing
So full of energy and brilliantly lit
It was Andrew Lloyd Weber - Les Miserables - Saturday Night Fever rolled into one.
It was more a production than what I’d call a panto. Not funny enough for me. If only it had been full of Irish accents… much too many nondescript accents for me.
Even though I can’t disguise my disappointment at the small amount of audience participation and the spectacular production values, I say go see it. It is wonderful. Part of me loved it to bits and I was incredibly impressed. This can only go from strength to strength.
A 58 year old man isn’t the right person to review a panto. I wouldn’t pay any attention to what I think…
